Hawkins Animal Hospital & Wellness Center is not a corporate owned entity; we are a locally owned, independent veterinary clinic committed entirely to the health of the Long Island community. This independence is the core of the exceptional care we provide translating directly into superior outcomes and relationships for you and your pets.
Our Philosophy
We believe in freedom of thought. Our doctors and staff are independent thinkers, so we work solely for our patients. This means every medical decision, from diagnostics like the HT Vista screening tool, to the customized integration of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and conventional pharmacology, is based exclusively on what is best for your pet's unique constitution and long-term well-being.
Our Story
Our journey began in 2014 with a clear vision to create an animal hospital where cutting edge medicine and holistic wellness worked hand in hand. Founded by Bethany Howe, DVM, a veterinarian passionate about treating the whole patient - not just the symptoms - we established Hawkins Animal hospital and Wellness Center as a sanctuary for healing.

Bethany Howe-Fanning, DVM, CVA
Dr. Bethany Howe received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1998 from the University of Rhode Island, and graduated from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She completed a small animal internal medicine and surgery internship in Westbury, NY from 2005-2006. She then worked as an Associate Emergency Doctor in West Islip for four years, before transitioning to small animal practice over the past 4 years. She opened the Hawkins Animal Hospital and Wellness Center in August 2014 and is a member of AVMA and AVHMA. Her interests include internal and emergency triage medicine. She is also very interested in holistic medicine and is incorporating aromatherapy into her practice of traditional western medicine, and is a level 2 Reiki practitioner and seraphim blueprint practitioner. Dr. Howe makes her home on the north shore of Long Island, NY with her husband, sons, 2 dogs, and two cats.

Dr. Yvonne Boutges is a 2003 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at Oklahoma State University. After 5 years of practicing full time at a primary veterinary hospital, she decided to broaden her professional knowledge, and began practicing emergency medicine and providing veterinary relief services for Eastern Long Island. Her professional interests include preventative, behavioral and emergency medicine. Dr. Boutges was born and raised on Eastern Long Island, and currently lives on the North Fork with her husband, son, a dog named Bunker, and cats Nero and Jitterbug. She enjoys spending her down time traveling, boating and fishing with her family, and any time on the beach. Currently Dr. Boutges is available on Fridays for surgery and appointments.
